It’s Complicated.

There is a part of one’s profile on Facebook where you can list your relationship status.  Married, single, in a relationship, etc.  Now, I know they mean romantic or domestic relationships, but I think if we were all very honest the only category we could put our relationships in would be “it’s complicated”.  Because no matter what terms we use, we are in relationship with everyone we meet.  I’d go so far to say that we are in relationship with everyone everywhere.

We stand on the shoulders of those who came before, and our actions today effect generations in the future.  We cannot not be in relationship.  We can call these connections by any name we choose, but everything we do and think, is influenced by those from the past and will have an impact on those in the future.

So it would seem that relationships are the single most important arena in our lives.  The fragile and delicate ties that bind are indeed complicated.  We say and do things, we don’t say and do things and peoples lives are changed.  What an awesome burden.  What a welcome burden.  To know that we have the power to lift someone up, to make their day just a bit better, to choose not to lash out; this is all within our grasp.  And in a life where it so often seems that we can create no change, this is a tremendous power.

It’s just so very complicated.

Good message. If one concentrates on his relationship with the Lord, that will have a beneficial effect on how he/she responds to others.

“It’s complicated” definitely describes the net result.
