Last night at dinner at an ancient restaurant on Mont St. Michel, we pilgrims were asked our brief impressions of the day. I offered this observation of a construction beam in the roof right above us as an example of how something imperfect can be used to make something lasting. We imperfect creatures striving to make a better world can take to heart this old mis-shapen beam giving strength to the whole building.
